Van Fest, Forbes, New South Wales

It’s where the city meets country! Capturing the big city trimmings, VANFEST brought a full day of local and international talent taking the main stage from 2.30pm till midnight.

The debut event, first of its kind – Van Fest was on the 6th December in Forbes, Central West NSW.

Forbes is Central West NSW so about a 5hr drive from Sydney, 3hrs from Canberra and about 8hrs from Melbourne – so half the fun was making a road trip out of the event. Van Fest also provide a camping area so you can pack an esky, marshmallows and sleeping bags and enjoy the full experience that the festival has to offer.

Van Fest didn’t take any chances in its first year, bringing two of Australia’s most in-demand indie acts, Melbourne electronica champ Chet Faker and Sydney folk musician from my home town Matt Corby, to Forbes as the headlining acts.

The all-Australian lineup also included the below acts:

British India
Van She
Bag Raiders
Savage
Sneaky Sound System
Allday
Celia Pavey
OXBLVD

You know it’s a little bit country when they have hay barns to sit on, country folk are in their drize-a-bones and the main alcohol sponsor is XXXX GOLD. But this it was made it so much fun.

The rains (aka huge, torrential storm) hit at about 4pm, but that didn’t stop everyone getting amongst it. Mudslides and mud fights broke out whilst we all danced in the rain to VanShe and Savage.

The rain cleared up at about 6pm and a huge rore came from the crowds as the sun hit everyone’s faces. We were left with mud paddock to play and dance in.

Chetfaker was the absolute highlight of the day. He even live jammed on stage creating a new song for his new album.

We also all had a head bop to this live sess

The emergent festival was the creation of father and son team Grant and Matt Clifton. Matt says he and his father were “blown away” that they could bring high-profile acts like Faker and Corby to Forbes in Van Fest’s first year, and are looking forward to bringing quality music to the NSW’s Central West.

Until next year VanFest!
