Le Comptoir, Soho, London

If you live in London no doubt you have probably seen Comptoir canteens and delicatessens scattered around London.

Does this face look familiar?

Thought so.

It’s the pretty face that invites you to take a peek inside the glamourous side of lebanese food.

The restaurants are hard to miss. The eccentric canteens are always so bright and colourful that even the bleak London winter can’t dull their shine. There is a little touch of souk with embroidered goodies hanging on the walls from Marrakech.

It’s a cool, laid back diner style restaurant. Heck, once I even grabbed a bite here with a friend in gym gear after a workout!  There is no pretense or judgement. Just a whole lot of cool cats there to enjoy good food, wine and company. This place has made me realise you don’t have to sacrifice comfort, style or authenticity of food just because the dining is casual.

There are now 10 Le Comptoir’s scattered around London but I usually find myself at Chelsea or Soho. And Londoners, don’t turn your red, cold noses up because it’s a chain. If anything this means it was a success so it branched out to share the love it other parts of the city. These places are always packed so make sure you book a table in advance.

Planning a long overdue girls dinner? This is your spot. It’s healthy. Think hommos, tabbouleh, fresh olives, pita bread and mint tea to wash it all down. It’s all ready fresh produce and the flavours will make you melt! It’s affordable (Comptoir was voted one of the best meals in London under 10 pounds by Time Out), so no awkwardness when deciding on where to go or paying at the end. It’s a sharing style menu, which makes it really relaxed and fun and you are able to try out a few different things on the menu. Bonus? They also give you the option of a medium or large wine glass allowing those who’ve had a stressful day to relax and those who drive to join in on the fun!

Looking for a new lunch spot? All those creative folk who work in Soho, it’s a great spot where you can go and enjoy a filling, hearty, guilt free lunch (take away also available). Again, it’s affordable so you don’t have to feel guilty about breaking the bank with lunch time feeds.

Got a date? Seriously, go here. I mean really. It’s easy, no fuss, casual atmosphere makes it perfect for a casual date.

This was the sharing plate I had at the Soho Comptoir. See below.

lI’m getting hungry just thinking about it!

These guys make lebanese food accessible and top of mind for all Londoners. So next time you are daydreaming about food at your desk or organising a dinner with friends and deciding where to go. Go check them out.

Check out the menu here.

Note all chicken and meat is halal.

Enjoy!
